What We Do
The BMCC continues to offer its opera educational outreach program, This is an Opera. Over the past 16 years, more than 25,000 students from Burleigh and Morton counties have been introduced to opera through the program. This special performance is held at the Belle Mehus Auditorium in collaboration with Bismarck Public Schools. Students attending private schools and home-schooled
children are invited to attend.
The program features singers
from the Chorus demonstrating
vocal ranges, opera recitative
and arias, duets and
ensembles. This program is
unique in its approach,
incorporating singing, technical
elements of opera such as
staging and lighting, and
activities throughout the
fast-paced program that
engage grade-school children.
Collaboration with children’s choirs and arts groups is an integral component of the spring concert. To choose the artwork for the tickets and posters for the event, the Chorus sponsors an art contest for elementary-age children. Besides giving students the chance to display their artistic talent, the contest promotes the concert to the community and connects the visual and musical arts. Jubilate! of Central Dakota Children’s Choir performs at the concert. This collaboration gives children the opportunity to sing in a large venue and to see how art and music have the potential to be a part of their lives.
The Bismarck-Mandan Civic Chorus’ mission is to foster, develop, and share a passion for choral music. We inspire community appreciation through masterful choral performances and are dedicated to artistic excellence and educational enrichment.

Civic Chorus inducted into
McQuade
Hall of Fame
For 15 years, members of the
Bismarck-Mandan Civic Chorus
have volunteered their time to
oversee the silent auction at the
annual McQuade Charity
Slowpitch Softball Tournament
in Bismarck and Mandan. This
year, McQuade Distributing
recognized those efforts by
inducting the BMCC into the
tournament's Hall of Fame for
volunteer groups.

Each summer, the BMCC helps
set up the tent for the silent
auction, arrange displays of merchandise in the tent and answer questions of those stopping by to bid on items. Money raised goes to the tournament for distribution to charitable organizations in the two host cities. Above, BMCC President Matt Leidholm (2023-2024) accepted the award on behalf of the BMCC.
